Our second pattern for fall is the Itinerary Dress, Simplicity 2060.
This is a sporty style that can also be dressed up. It’s a pull-on dress with buttons at the shoulder and an obi-style belt. Here it is in the mosaic sateen from the fall Lisette fabric collection paired with our coordinating solid-colored sateen at the yoke and sash.
This sample is obviously too short on me, since I’m quite a bit taller than average. I’ll be wearing this with jeans and will be sure to lengthen it the next time I make it for myself.
It can also be made in a single fabric rather than with a contrasting yoke, as shown in this version of the dress I made using our lightweight canvas from the first Lisette fabric collection.
See how the canvas works so nicely for apparel? It’s a perfect weight for skirts, dresses, and jackets. It has a real apparel drape and hand, unlike canvas fabrics intended to be used for home dec projects.
I hope you’ll have fun with these patterns. I really can’t wait to see how you make them. Make sure to share your work in the Flickr group when you’re done.
Edit to add: I forgot to mention that this pattern has two sleeve options. You can choose the very simple 3/4-length sleeve (which I like to roll a bit, as in the first photo) or the long sleeve with a very fast and easy cuff (as shown in the second photo). Cheers!
At long last, here are some additional photos of the fall Lisette fabrics and patterns. With me wearing then, again. (I’m no model, but I really wanted to show you what I’ve been sewing so you can see some additional views of the patterns and the fabric. We shot these quickly in the studio at the end of a busy day, so….)
This is the Continental pattern, Simplicity 2059, which includes a dress, blouse, and skirt. I want to show you the dress first.
I like this style because it’s very easy and comfortable but can also be dressed up. I made this dress in the floral sateen from the fall Lisette fabric collection and wore it with the self belt.
And here it is again, made up in handkerchief linen and worn with a leather belt.
I also like this pattern because it can be layered when the weather turns cool. I wore this style all last winter, layered over turtlenecks, tights, and tall boots. It look great worn with jeans, too, so it’s very versatile.
The blouse and skirt patterns in this package are also very simple, straightforward styles that are quick to sew and easy to wear. Here they are also made from this season’s Lisette fabrics, the blouse from our delicate floral lawn and the skirt made from my favorite of all our fabrics, the lightweight canvas in an ikat print.
The blouse is such a relaxed, fun style that’s very simple and minimalist from the front, with the surprise of the cute gathered detail in the back. And the bias-cut, A-line skirt is flattering on nearly everyone. I love the asymmetrical seam where the two sides join for a mitered stripe effect.
I hope these photos provide you some inspiration and that you’ll share what you make from this pattern in the Lisette Flickr group.
I came across these tearsheets in my stash the other day and wanted to share them with you. You could easily incorporate these elements into your own sewing, using Lisette patterns, to create similar styles for yourself.
The little bow detail on the placket of this dress could easily be added to the Market Dress for a fresh, feminine look.
And this cute bow could be added to the Passport Dress, with gathered panels at the side seams for a similar effect. You might want to move the zipper to the center back if you add the gathered panels, to reduce bulk at the side seams. This would be a great dress to wear to a wedding, wouldn’t it?
I’m pleased to introduce the newest member of the Lisette family: Little Lisette.
Little Lisette is a collection of sewing patterns and apparel fabrics created especially for girls aged 3-14. The line debuts this month with two patterns from Simplicity and a fall fabric collection which is available at Jo-Ann stores across the United States.
The fabrics are designed to be both functional and fun. This first Little Lisette collection features bold prints in bright colors done in a variety of apparel fabrications, including corduroy, poplin, sateen, and twill. You can preview the collection in the Fabric section of our website.
The fabrics are making their way onto shelves at Jo-Ann stores this week, just in time for your back-to-school sewing. You’ll find them on the same shelf with the Lisette fabrics at your local Jo-Ann.
The first Little Lisette pattern release, which is now available at Jo-Ann stores and on our website, features two styles: a dress for girls size 3-8 and a skirt and top outfit for girls sizes 3-14. The Little Lisette patterns feature the ruffles and frills that little girls love. They are simple styles, and they are designed to be quick and easy to sew. They are also being made available at a very affordable price.
Little Lisette style 2063 is a dress featuring a button closure at the shoulder and ruffle details at the neck and seams. The dress can also be made with flat piping at the seams or with tiered ruffles for lighter-weight fabrics that give the dress a sweet look and which lets you play with a few different prints.
Little Lisette style 2064 features a tuxedo-style ruffled blouse with flared or gathered long sleeves. The included skirt can be made with an A-line silhouette or a bubble effect and includes bias-trimmed pockets for both views.
I hope you’ll enjoy sewing with these new patterns and fabric. I would love to see what you make. So please post your photos to the Lisette Flickr group!
I’m excited, finally, to be able to take the wraps of our two new Lisette styles for fall. This season we are releasing a combination blouse, skirt, and dress pattern and a unique tailored dress pattern that features an optional obi sash.
The Continental Blouse, Skirt, and Dress pattern features a blouse and an A-line, bias-cut skirt with an asymmetrical seam that will let you dress up or down for any occasion, depending on your fabric selections.
The relaxed, pull-on blouse features an interesting gathered-back detail, which you’ll be able to see if you click to enlarge this photo.
The bias-cut skirt is designed for color blocking or to highlight mitered stripes at the front and back seams for an interesting and unique look. I created this design specifically to showcase the two twill polka dot-stripe prints (one of which the model is wearing in this photograph) and the two canvas ikat stripe prints in the Fall 2011 Lisette fabric collection. But don’t let that limit you. The style will be equally interesting done with many other fabrics of your choice. I think it would be great for textured fabrics as well.
The pattern also includes an easygoing belted dress option that’s perfect for late summer and early fall and can also be layered as we move into cooler weather. It looks great belted and can also be worn loose for a casual style.
The Itinerary Dress sewing pattern is a stylish pull-on dress that includes a gently curved yoke with soft gathers at the front, a button closure at the left shoulder, and an optional matching obi sash.
The pattern lets you mix prints and solids to create the perfect dress to accentuate your style. For a simple, relaxed version of what’s shown here, you could also omit the sash and make the yoke in the same fabric as the body of the dress.
Both styles come in the standard two Simplicity size ranges: 6-14 and 14-22. They are available now from our website and everywhere Simplicity patterns are sold.
You can see more images of each style in the patterns section of our website. And we’ll be showing you additional versions of these styles soon. As usual, I can’t wait to see how you make them into your own style.
I’m happy to report that our newest Lisette fabric collection has begun arriving on shelves at Jo-Ann stores across the United States. You can preview the whole collection in the fabric section of our website.
This collection is a transitional one to help you move from summer into fall. The colors in the group are a bit softer and more muted, making them great for late-summer and early-fall. The collection includes an eclectic group of prints designed to coordinate nicely with each other and with the new season of Lisette sewing patterns which will be released later this month.
As with our last collection, this one includes fabrics in a wide variety of fabrications.
The sateens in the group include a large-scale, two-color floral print in two colorways that is great for dresses, a mosaic tile geometric print designed for dresses and blouses or shirts, as well as some solids to coordinate with the prints. (This image shows a solid paired with the mosaic tile print.)
This season we have a delicate little two-color print in lawn that comes in three colorways. All three play nicely with the other larger-scale prints in the collection. The lightweight fabric is great for blouses and shirts.
There are also a few lightweight canvas ikat stripes in the group which work well for a wide variety of purposes: skirts, pants, dresses, and jackets. This print can be dressed up or down, and the fabric is substantial but still drapey enough to be used in many ways.
The twill bead stripes makes great skirts or jackets. The texture in the dots softens the print and gives it lots of versatility. The solid twill colors also included in the group help expand your sewing options.
There is also an interesting block print-inspired paisley in a poplin which comes in two colorways. This fabric would be perfect for making a very cute late-summer dress or blouse, so pick yours up quickly and start sewing now!
Both the ikat stripe in the canvas and the textured bead stripe in the twill will work well with one of the new Lisette sewing patterns that I designed specifically for stripes like these. I’ll have more on that soon as we near the patterns’ release date.
In the meantime, pay a visit to your local Jo-Ann store to see the collection in person. Quantities for this collection are limited, so don’t delay.
